About once a week, when the team was buried in paperwork and Steve was pulling faces because (so Danny says) he hadn’t gotten to shoot anyone or chase them off a cliff in a couple days, the team would get Chinese. Chin would call in an order at The Happy Duck and because he ordered in Chinese and was so nice, the store sent extra fortune cookies. No one was sure quite how it started, but it was understood that if a fortune was read aloud, everyone would add “except in bed” to the end.
“I got one, I got one!” Kono said, already giggling, “Any rough times are behind you.” Steve started to look less grumpy.
“Rough times, that’s good,” Danny chuckled.
“Check this out,” Chin said, grinning, “A thrilling time is in your immediate future.”
“Damn!” Steve said, laughing with Kono now.
Danny coughed when he looked at his, “You are almost there.”
“That would be better with the ‘in bed’, I think,” Chin said.
“True, but it’s still pretty good,” Danny answered.
“Success is,” Steve choked, “Success is a journey, not a destination.”
“That’s just the truth,” Danny said.
“Wait, wait!” Kono said, “Savor,” she cleared her throat and took a deep breath in an attempt to fight the giggles, “Savor your freedom — it is precious,” laughter rang out through the room.
Danny stood up and cleared his throat, “Failure is the chance to do better next time.”
