"Stuff I did over at DC with Kingdom Come is regularly brought up amongst their various worlds of universes and futures of their characters and such. I would hope this sees the same kind of treatment and appreciation over time." - Alex Ross

In the comments to these weekly posts (and only these posts), it's your chance to go as off topic as you like.

Talk about non-comics stuff, thread derail, and just generally chat among yourselves.

The intent of these posts is to chat and have some fun and, sure, vent a little as required. Reasoned debate is fine, as always, but if you have to ask if something is going over the line, think carefully before posting please.

Normal board rules about conduct and behaviour still apply, of course.

It's been suggested that, if discussing spoilers for recent media events, it might be advisable to consider using the rot13 method to prevent other members seeing spoilers in passing.

The world situation is the world situation. If you're following the news, you know it as much as I do, if you're not, then there are better sources than scans_daily. But please, no doomscrolling, for your own sake.

In the same day POTUS47 managed to:

1) Unironically post AI generated images for Space Force uniforms clearly based on a LOT of the "Starship Troopers" movie. You know, the thinly veiled political satire where the Government and were full on fascist, with the military wearing a lot of black, grey, leather and greatcoats, and the Director had, I'm sure coincidentally, grown up in the Nazi occupied Netherlands.

2) Posted an AI video of himself as a Green Lantern... which I might actually make it's own post about since it's ON topic, or might decide I don't need to subject us to that level of crap...

Tireless feminist icon Gloria Steinem passed away at the age of 92. In the 60's and 70's in particular she was one of the most visible and audible proponents for women to be afforded the same rights and access as men, and she remained outspoken on the topic to the very end.

Strange New Worlds made it's most recent themed episode a Trelane one, as he turned the Enterprise into an actual soap opera. Full marks to Anson Mount though, for making his arc a rather powerful one. (I also suspect one's perception of the impressiveness of the guest star they got is directly linked to how familiar you are with the world of American daytime soap operas)

Oh, and I believe today is also the 60th Anniversary of Star Trek first airing on TV! :)

In terms of movies I should have caught up with a long time back, I finally watched "The Marvels", which was a whole lot of fun, and the Robert Pattison Batman movie, which I liked more than I expected, but was yet another example of a basically silly vigilante superhero movie having to be "real" to the extent they seemed embarrassed they were making a superhero movie.

A robot, a giantess and a guy named Larry is pretty much my ideal super-hero lineup.

Okay, I think I'm about ready to forgive Mike Costa after his Transformers run, so let's give him a chance on one of my other favourite franchises. No plot spoilers below.

Grant [Morrison] famously said at the onset of their run ‘oh wait, what if you had actually lived through all this stuff? What would it do to you?’ And I think there’s some part of me that is like, what if all that stuff is still happening? What if it’s Killer Croc today and then it’s a squad of ninja assassins on motorcycles tomorrow, and then it’s cartel gangs. It’s a little bit like, we can do it all. -- Matt Fraction

That's starting this November, written by Dan Watters, who's taking an aggregate approach:

" Jessica Drew never really had a consistent writer during [her] original run.. she had Wolfman, Gruenwald, Claremont, Nocenti, etc. All had different ideas about what a Spider-Woman comic might look like.. [t]aking her from the UK to the West Coast, from monster stories to mystery stories, from a bounty hunter to a private eye.. We'll be pulling on a lot of [that] in this title. "

The anniversary issue set-up handles the weight of her history by being matter-of-fact about her latest status quo.

It opens on a day of it. )
