Grief is difficult. Mourning the death of a pop star is something that America does very well (maybe too well?). I personally do not feel that there is anything wrong with being sad over the death of a person you liked, even if you never met them. Artists (including actors, musicians, even sportsman) can have a profound affect on our daily lives. Songs can be inspirational, touching, or just make us feel better and I find no reason not to mourn the loss of the creator (or collaborator) behind works that become apart of our lives.

But do you really need to come into a bookstore in tears asking if there is a grief section and saying "I don't know how to deal with this grief. It just feels like a piece of me has been ripped away" (with an accompanying rip-out-heart-from-chest motion) all because Michael Jackson died a couple days ago?

Personally? I think not.
