New Schedule Fun

I promised myself I’d write a little a little every day and of course, I’ve browsed Tumblr mindlessly far too long to do anything helpful or relevant writing wise tonight. I’m still working on getting the hang of the new schedule. It’s certainly different. In some ways it’s similar but in a lot of ways it really isn’t. Today was fun because Tuesday is the day that I work 11 - 8pm which I have to say I definitely enjoyed. I slept like a rock for nearly 9 and a half hours and ate breakfast before I went to work. The only tough thing is then turning around and having to be up at 6 something in the morning to be at work 8 am. I’ve done tougher turnarounds. 

Back in the Borders days, there were times I’d close up which meant leaving the store around 10:30pm and being in the next morning at 6 or so to shelve. It’s not even as bad as closing at CVS on Sunday night and then having to be into Scholastic Monday morning. Not to mention when I was juggling three jobs, one of which was a hotel, and I basically didn’t sleep unless it was in my car for a nap between jobs. 

Still though, it’s not something I’m used to doing any more. And the shifting schedule in general is something different than what I’m used to. Even when I was working retail and/or the hotel, I didn’t have a set schedule at all. It was just whatever they needed. This is a structured, patterned schedule but one that goes through a cycle. It’s a bit like the moon I suppose, which is sort of a fun way to think about it. The working every third weekend is still weird too. I’ve had a schedule where I worked every other weekend, but every third is just weird. It’s not bad. I mean I’d definitely rather do every third than every other. And my favorite part of the schedule is that after you’ve worked a weekend, you get a three day weekend the next weekend. Which is super nice. I’m hoping that I’ll be able to find a way to go down to the beach soon using one of those weekends. Just heading down after work on a Thursday. 

Because it was a busy day and I didn’t get home until almost 9, I needed a bit to unwind as well as eat something since I was starving and that put the writing off until late. I think what I’ll have to do moving forward is make a point, at least on Tuesdays, of writing before work. Since I don’t have to be in until 11 and going to bed at midnight feels pretty natural to me, getting up around 9 am to write a little before heading off to work doesn’t seem like it would be too hard. I guess we’ll see. 

The other thing I like about the Tuesday thing is that if I have worked the weekend, it’s a 6 day work week before the 3 day weekend, but Tuesday is in the middle of those days so I get a mini recovery morning to help me make it through the last couple of days of the week.

I’ve only got one more episode to rewatch of The Shannara Chronicles before I’m ready for season 2 which is just in time for tomorrow’s premier basically. Woot!
