Running Shoes and Printer Grenades
May. 8th, 2018 11:12 pmI want to write, I really do. But every time I open something, it’s like my eyes just slide away. Or my brain does and I’m left staring at my computer screen for seven minutes daydreaming or thinking about the day in no coherent way until I see a message pop up and I chase that rabbit.
I should be fair to myself. While I got a good night’s sleep and a nap today, I still had a pretty busy day. I did get up and workout this morning. I’ve been working on completing the Couch to 5k thing, at a much slower rate than the creators intended maybe, but still. I know I’ve mentioned before that I usually only do one or two of the three recommended “runs” per week, but it’s not like I’m not exercising in other ways. And I think it’s working pretty well on a whole. I’m getting way better run times than I did the last time I attempted this adventure.
Anyway, today’s run was the first one where they have you sustain a jog for the entire length of time between the warm-up and the cooldown. Up to this point, it’s been walk, jog, walk, jog, walk, jog, walk (or something along those lines). Every so often the time you’re supposed to be running goes up and the walking time decreases to help you build up stamina. Today’s run was five minutes of walking, twenty minutes of jogging, and then five more minutes of walking to cool down. The next one will be five minutes of walking, ten jogging, three (I think?) minutes walking, ten more minutes jogging, and then five minutes walking. After that, it’s just jogging in the middle with a slight increase in how long you jog for over the last couple of weeks of sessions.
I don’t think I’ll be able to jog more than two miles of the three and a bit that I’m planning to do on Saturday but I’m looking forward to the experience nonetheless. It’s been ages since I did a 5k with other people and it wasn’t one that I was able to do very well in. I’d gotten out of the exercise habit at the time and I struggled even to walk quickly the whole way. It felt like it took hours to finish. It’ll still probably take me close to an hour to finish on Saturday, but I’m okay with that or at least I’m trying to be. I gotta start somewhere!
I’m thinking about eventually signing up for a 10k, but I’m not sure yet and I definitely want to get through this business first.
Wow, okay my point was to say that I’ve had a long day that started with me jogging just over two miles before doing some weight lifting which was followed by a nap, shower, 9 hours at work that involved a broken printer for part of the day, and then two errands before finally getting home around 9:30, but apparently it was tangent time for me and now it’s really time for bed.
