"Ganked"

Eric jumped; surprised by the sound of someone at the door. He wasn’t expecting any packages, he rarely got any unplanned visitors, and he wasn’t expecting Nell for another two hours. He had the console all set up for her arrival, snacks at the ready, a full two cases of Code Red Mountain Dew in the fridge, and he’d done a number of things he generally classified as “not illegal” in order to prepare for today’s games.

He and Nell were both too good at hacking and gaming to really find the new installment of Call of Duty a challenge. However, there were to other hackers with whom they were acquainted (if you could count competing in the comms for games and seeing who could hack through encrypted sites faster acquainted since they’d never met in person) and it was hacker team versus hacker team tonight. Frankly, there was little to no challenge in video games any more. However, trying to beat the game before these guys did? That was a challenge. Last time he’d lost, but last time he did not have Nell.

But the games did not begin for another hour, so who was at the door now? He’d taken his time getting up waiting for a commercial even though he’d only seen this episode about eight-hundred times. Since he didn’t jump up to answer the door, whoever was on the other side got impatient and rang the bell again.

“Really?” he said under his breath wondering who it could possibly be. “Coming!” he shouted louder so that they wouldn’t ring it again. He didn’t know why it would irk him if they did, but he really didn’t want them to ring the bell for a third time. “Hang on!” he added as he unlocked the door.

“Nell! Hey, um, what are you doing here? This early, I mean...” he broke off, not unhappy to see her, merely confused and wondering if there was some way he could change the channel on the TV before she saw what was on it.

“Um, we said we would talk strategy beforehand, remember?” She looked confused, concerned and a little embarrassed which irked him. He hadn’t meant to make her uncomfortable and truthfully, he’d been looking forward to this for ages.

“Come in! I was just, um, finishing getting everything ready,” he said, hoping that this was not making everything worse. He heard the tell-tale sound then. The show was back, if he tried to change the channel now, she would know for sure what he was watching. Maybe if he let it run, like he’d just switched it on or over from the console, she wouldn’t think anything of it.

“What's a P.A.?” a voice from the TV said.
“I think it's kinda like a slave.” responded another.

Eric went for the remote thinking he would try to turn off the TV as casually as possible. Then he thought he had a better plan.

“I knew it!” Nell suddenly yelled, startling him from his thoughts.

“Knew what?” he said as he placed the remote back on the table after doing his best to casually change the input to the console like this was for their strategy session. Clearly, his new plan had not been effective.

“That you are a closet Supernatural fan,” she said smirking merrily.

“What?! No, I’m not - that was just, I mean is that what that was? Whatever that was, you know, it was just -” he fumbled as her smirk grew more confident. He sighed and gave up. “How did you know?”

“You said Hetty ganked your whistle. Who says that? Except of course, Dean Winchester. Figured you had to be a fan,” she concluded happily.

“Okay, yeah, but um why do you know Dean uses ‘ganked’?” Before he could finish his sentence she had reached across for the remote. She put the TV back to Dean who was currently shoving a sandwich in his mouth.

“Oh, I think strategy can wait until after this episode. It’s one of my favorites. And seriously, how has Sam not seen “Poltergeist”, that’s just ridiculous!”

“I know, it’s a classic,” he said, a little bewildered by the turn of events. Nell surprised him around every corner. “Although,” he continued, “I think I liked “The Exorcist” better.”

“Mmmm,” she said through a mouth full of chips that she’d snagged from the stash he had at the ready for the evening, “A brilliant film. Although, I believe that was a demon not a ghost. Not that demons aren’t very much a part of Sam and Dean’s cinematic heritage. Oh, and speaking of demons, what are your thoughts on the Paranormal Activity films? Because honestly, I thought they were fantastic.”

Now Eric was really smiling. They were so going to win tonight and because no one was better than Nell.

**giggles** Ganked! And yeah, Dean is pretty much the only person who says 'ganked.'

Right?! I mean I'd never heard it before Dean. And now Eric? It CANNOT be a coincidence. I mean, isn't that what SPN teaches us? There are no coincidences?

Okay mmmaaaayyyybbbeeeee that's taking it a little far.

Still though, such an unusual word.

Lol, I think I'd heard it, but only as like, a word in a ramble about synonyms. Or something.

And I don't watch NCIS: LA, but this does amuse me. :)

Hehe, I know you're not a NCIS LA watcher which makes the fact that you enjoyed this mean all the more to me :) ♥

I love it. I'm love that you latched onto ONE word (Ganked) and ran with it. Great job.

Heehee, I couldn't help it! It just gnawed on my brain. As soon as he said it, I was convinced he watched SPN and I was certain Nell was going to catch him watching.
