Now that I’ve finished Shadowhunters, I should be working on Lucifer, but somehow I’ve ended up sucked into something called “New Legends of the Monkey King” or some such thing on Netflix. My friends, this shit is ridiculous, but I’m super duper enjoying it. I’m not addicted to it like I get to some stuff, but it’s just really pleasant to watch. It’s odd and campy, but fun and endearing.

One of the guys who joined Shadowhunters in the current season (season 3) is one of the stars in this one. He’s definitely attractive as Jordan Kyle the Praetor Werewolf in Shadowhunters, BUT him as this Monkey King? Damn son! Part of it is the little golden circlets he wears, part of it is his warrior king, fantasy armor stuff, and then there’s the like charcoal eyeliner thing happening. It’s not obvious he’s got on some sort of smokey eye something going on. It’s only because I’ve been watching him in Shadowhunters at more or less the same time that I can tell there’s a difference. It’s a pretty subtle difference.

Still, the subtle little things end up making him hotter--even when he’s a total dweeb--as the Monkey King. The girl in it, the one who has brought him out of his prison and is trying to save the world from Demons, is super cute too. She’s pretending to be a monk so her hair is all shaved and she’s running around in monk-like clothing, and it’s kind of a good look for her. One of the things I love is that we don’t know her real name. When it makes sense to the story, I love the “never know their name” trope. It’s rare that I feel like it really works, but this is one of those times. The only other one I can think of off the top of my head is “Mumford” but that’s one of my all-time fave movies in general.

Onto other things, I did actually manage to write a tiny bit on my lunch break today. I have an ebook with three prompts for every day for a year and I used one of them to write for a few minutes. I only managed about five minutes, but if I can build on that habit I’ll be able to get my progress towards my word count goal up. I’m so freaking far behind for this month already that it’s honestly not even funny. I know a lot of that is due to the reading thing that’s been happening, but it’s hard anyway.

Anyway, I promised to clean up the kitchen so I’d better do that and then head to bed. I’ve got another early morning tomorrow.
