Missed Opportunity

I look back on our friendship
with nothing
nothing except fondness, laughter,
and a question
verging on a regret.
Our every conversation now seems
a missed opportunity, why
didn’t I ever say, ‘I like you’ like I meant it?
I should have stood in front of you,
should have demanded
your attention,
and when you gave it, should have
slowly          gently          kissed
your cheek and            lingered there
until you understood.
Would you have meant it
if we kissed?
