At the movies from the bookstore Part 2
This goes with my previous post (well sorta), but I felt the last post was too long so, I'm making this part it's own post. It deserves to be it's own post any way.
Harry Potter is one of my favorite series and I'm a big fan of series in general. This particular series is something that I've feel sort of fortune to have grown up along side me. When the movies started coming out I was hopeful but also fairly skeptical. I know that there are a lot of people who disagree with me but in my opinion the first Harry Potter film was far too bogged down with trying to be the book that it lost a lot of the excitement the book held (at least to me) and I still left the theater thinking of all the things left out. Frankly, I barely remember the second or third movies. The fourth was better, but I never felt the need to own it. It was the fifth film that finally engrossed me and made me believe the series could be as good a movie as they were books (on a scale of movie to movie and book to book NOT movie vs. book). David Yates took the book that is 5th out of the seven in order of favorite to least favorite (for me personally) and made it the movie I enjoyed the most.
Well, until now. I can say without any hesitation that Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince is my favorite of the HP movies thus far. I thoroughly look forward to the HP7 parts 1 and 2, and while I was original upset by the decision to release to the 7th book in two parts, I find myself trusting his judgment more and more. He has found a way (at least in my opinion) to bring to life the essence of Harry Potter and the story (from book one to book seven) while making a movie that is entertaining, visually stimulating and coherent. Yes he leaves some things out, yes he adds a few things. But he is movies don't get bogged down in the details while staying true to the series' story and to what made the book series so well loved in the first place.
I will probably add more to this later as I am seeing the movie for a second time tomorrow.
